Hon. Sergius Ogun, member representing Esan North East/South East of Edo State, on Saturday donated scholarship awards worth several millions of naira to indigent students of his constituency.
The scholarship awards were handed over to various beneficiaries by chieftains of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Community leaders on behalf of Sergius Ogun Foundation.
Ogun who expressed satisfaction on the development noted that no child of the constituency should be left behind.
According to him, through the Foundation each of the best HND graduating students have been receiving N100,000 while best graduating students have been given N50,000 since the year 2000.
He also urged those who graduated with distinguished grades to send their Curriculum Vitae to his office for necessary consideration for employment assistance.
Ogun who recalled his experience at a church programme in Port Harcourt renews commitment towards assisting Esan North East/Esan South as well as Esan Central and Esan West students.
Some of the stakeholders who eulogised Hon. Ogun’s gesture observed that some of the recipients are Esan Central and Esan West students.
Also, some of the people who secured jobs at the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in 2017 also appreciated the kind gesture of Hon. Sergius Ogun.
The thanksgiving service in Ubiaja, Esan, in Edo state, was attended by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila and members of House of Representatives across various political parties.
In his remarks, Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila who was represented by Hon Emma-Oghene Egoh described him as a ‘legislator par excellence’.
He said “Esan people should be proud of Sergius because as a first timer Ogun became Chairman, House Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a position primarily reserved for top ranking members only.
“In his second term, Esan people should expect more from this brilliant lawyer as he is going to do more than expected.
“You are lucky to have somebody like Sergius and I want to especially thank you all for returning him to me,” the Speaker’s representative said.
In a brief speech, Hon. Sergius Ogun who represents Esan North East and South East said: “people shall celebrate you the way you have celebrated me today, may God bless you all.”
On his part, Hon. Egor urged the Esan South East and North East to rally support for Hon. Ogun, said: “I’m very proud to have worked with Hon. Sergius. So I want to urge you to continue to return him so that one day he will become the Speaker of the House of Representatives,” he urged.
Other dignitaries present at the occasion included: all Paramount rulers in Esanland, Reps Uzoma Nkem-Abonta, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Julius Pondi, Emma-Oghene Egoh, Joseph Edionwele, Paschal Ugbomo, Friday Itulah, and several newly elected Reps and the Edo State Assembly Speaker, Hon. Frank Okiye.
